Bentwood/ fatal accident

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a car crash at Pilgrims Hatch in which a 76-year old woman died. The woman was a passenger in a Ford Escort estate car, along with her husband, who was in his 70's and the 68-year old driver. Police have confirmed the dead woman as Joan Tyler of Doddinghurst Road, Brentwood. The Ford Escort was being driven along the A128 Ongar Road towards Brentwood on Friday (Feb 1) at 4pm, when it was involved in a collision with a Ford Transit motor vehicle near the junction to Coxtie Green Road (check) which was travelling in the opposite direction. Benfleet/ road rage terror

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to road rage incident in Benfleet where a motorist was chased down a road by another driver wielding an axe. During the incident, which occurred in Raymond Drive at 3.30pm on Friday (Feb 1), the man was threatened by the male driver of a green Citroen car. The driver then proceeded to chase the man along the street with what was described as an axe with a two-foot long wooden handle with a 10-12 inch blade. *Full report in Monday's Echo.   more...
