Rochford: Norah Trott murder trial

A 49-year-old builder was today going on trial accused of murdering the owner of a dress shop 27 years ago.

Wayne Doherty was appearing at Basildon Crown Court accused of killing 63-year-old Norah Trott in Rochford, on November 6, 1978.

Mrs Trott, who was divorced, was found dead near her garage. Post mortem examination results showed she had suffered head injuries and been sexually assaulted.

Doherty, who comes from Rochford, was arrested in St Peter Port, Guernsey, where he was working, in October 2004.
