Great Oakley: Concerns eased over expansion of airfield

From the archive, first published Monday 31st Oct 2005.

An airfield owner has sought to clarify any misunderstanding over his site's expansion.

Tim Spurge has applied to change the conditions applied to the facility at Lodge Farm in Great Oakley.

He wants to permission to be able to have up to 30 take-offs a day, as opposed to the ten currently allowed.

But he reassured residents this quota would not be filled every day, only on odd occasions.

He said: "We're not wanting to triple the traffic, we just want to give ourselves more choice and flexibility.

"On a particular day, there may be more than ten people wanting to fly, but on Sundays there is no flying activity whatsoever."

Great Oakley Parish Council will this week give its view on the plan, with Tendring Council then making the final decision.
