BOYS SAVED BY COASTGUARDS' ADVICE

THE LIVES of two boys who were stranded on a Shoebury beach by the incoming tide were saved because they remembered advice from coastguards who visited their school. That is what the relieved mums of Ryan Fitzgerald, 11, of Aylesbeare, Shoebury, and Reece Harvey, 11, of Bunkers Avenue, Shoebury, believe - after their sons were rescued from Shoebury East Beach, on Saturday (Mar 5). The boys realised the sea had blocked all routes back to shore - but remembered a talk made by the Southend Coastguard team to students at Hinguar Junior Mixed and Infants School, Shoebury, a year ago. Reece and Ryan followed valuable advice explained that day and dialled 999 on mobile phone, at around 6.20pm, and asked to speak to the Coastguard Service, which sent out a rescue vehicle in double quick time.
