Harwich: Man hurt in ship attack

A seaman was today being treated in hospital for multiple injuries and a stab wound after being attacked on a ship.

The 53-year-old, who has not been named by police, was on the Trinity House ship Patricia, moored at Harwich, when the assault took place.

Paramedics were called to the scene and immediately alerted police to the incident.

Insp Paul Butcher said officers at Harwich got the call at about 2.30am.

A 27-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested by police officers and taken to Clacton police station.

Insp Butcher said he was being questioned by officers in connection with a charge of grievous bodily harm. No charges have been made at this stage.
