Tendring: Care home crisis

From the archive, first published Thursday 8th Mar 2007.

CARE homes in Clacton are on the brink of a crisis due to Government policy, it has been claimed.

The warning comes as one

seaside residential home, which celebrated its 55th anniversary last year, has been put into administration.

Penny Pot Care Home, in Alton Road, Clacton, is still open but it is struggling to fill its beds with only 15 residents in the 38-capacity home.

Manager Lori Chaslot has admitted closure is a possibility.

She claims she has not had a single resident referred by Essex County Council since she handed control of four beds to the authority nearly two years ago.
