Chelmsford woman admits injuring biker in collision

From the archive, first published Thursday 8th Mar 2007.

A MOTORCYCLIST suffered a serious groin injury when a female motorist carried out a U-turn in his path.

Colchester magistrates heard Rebecca Potter, of Lady Lane, Chelmsford, performed the manoeuvre on Mersea Road in the town on October 6.

She wept as Andrew Martin, prosecuting, said: "She executed a U-turn in the path of a motorbike and there was a collision as a result."

He added the motorcyclist was seriously injured, and doctors had to remove part of his testicle as a result of the crash.

His bike was also badly damaged in the smash, the court heard.

Potter, 37, already had three points on her licence for traffic signal offence when she appeared in court this week.

She admitted a charge of careless driving.

The bench fined her £250 with £70 court costs and imposed a further six points on her licence.
