Soccer: Heighway signs on the dotted line

Clacton Town have bolstered their squad by signing former Colchester United youth-teamer Greg Heighway.

The Seasiders have taken swift action after suffering another heavy defeat - their third in a row - when going down 6-1 at Wroxham on Saturday.

They are now sixth-from-bottom in the Ridgeons League premier division after losing eight of their last ten matches, including heavy home reverses to Felixstowe and Walton (5-1) and Needham Market (4-0).

Heighway, a highly-rated defender or midfielder, has now signed on the dotted line from Kent Blaxill Essex and Suffolk Border League neighbours Brightlingsea Regent.

And he could make his debut in Saturday's clash at Wisbech Town.

Town coach David Coyle told the Gazette: "Greg's got a very good pedigree and has a decent background in the game, having progressed through the youth ranks at Colchester alongside (Clacton skipper) Sean Hillier.

"He played as a centre-half for them and more recently in midfield for Brightlingsea, so he's versatile and should prove a useful addition to our squad."
