Smee in dominant form

From the archive, first published Friday 9th Mar 2007.

South-East Essex athletes Jessica Judd and Camilla Smee have maintained their record-breaking cross-country feats.

Thurrock Harriers' Judd, the incredible Canvey schoolgirl find who is a student at the Island's Castle View School, put on a superb showing in the Southern Counties Schools Inter-Counties year seven girls' race at Southampton.

In a top quality field she emerged triumphant and, with the Southend High trio of Daisy Durden, Aimee Garnett and Emily Crow 28th, 35th and 58th respectively - plus St Hilda's Summer Dann 73rd -Essex were fifth team home.

But the real Essex success story came in the year eight girls race.

For Smee, a pupil at Westcliff's St Hilda's, not only finished second individually, but also led Essex to a first team place.

Southend High's Natalie Woodhouse (34th) and Rosie Davies (56th) contributed to the Essex B team's sixth spot.
