Dancers miss out on Simon Cowell show

From the archive, first published Tuesday 10th Apr 2007.

YOUNG dancers were left heartbroken after missing out on a place in Simon Cowell's new television talent show.

The Laindon-based Illuminate Beats, who made the 100 shortlist from 125,000 entrants, shed tears after failing to make the last 24 in ITV1's Britain's Got Talent.

The 29-strong group joined the other 99 acts - from Cardiff, Manchester, Birmingham and London - in a nerve-wracking nine-hour wait for the result.

Carlie Morris, 22, choreographer and group leader said: "The wait was horrible.

"They just called us back on stage to tell us their decision.

"Some of the girls got upset, they've worked really hard.

"But we all know we did brilliantly to get as far as we did. We know we are in the top national 100 and we're one of the top 25 acts in the south east."

The group could still appear on our screens when the show goes on air this summer.

Carlie said: "We were interviewed by Ant and Dec, which was great.

"And our auditions were filmed as well.

"We have taken a lot from the experience.

"We were told half of the successful finalists were dance acts so the competition was extremely tough. Some of them were amazing."
