Trace your family tree

From the archive, first published Tuesday 10th Apr 2007.

A variety of research methods are now available to Thurrock residents wishing to trace their family tree.

Thurrock libraries now have a collection of genealogical records from across the world available on their computers.

Known as the Ancestry Library Edition, the resources include the UK and Ireland Census collection, England and Wales Civil Registration Index from 1837 to the present, BT Phone Book Archives and even the US Census and Immigration collection.

To use the service, simply book a time slot in advance by phoning or visiting one of the libraries.

In addition to the new online resources, Thurrock libraries also have books on getting started and Grays library has local parish records on microfiche, the local newspaper on microfilm and census returns.
