A WOMAN trapped in her car after a head-on crash was rescued by firefighters.

Crews from Chelmsford, Great Baddow and Leigh responded to a call at 4.45pm on Monday, at the junction of Brook Lane and Vicarage Lane in Great Baddow.

A Triumph TR6 and a Ford Escort crashed head on, and the Ford went on to smash into an electricity control box.

The female driver of the Ford was trapped in her car because of back injuries and firefighters had to prise open the door with special equipment.

Station officer Tony Devenish said: "As the woman had become stuck, we created some space for the paramedics so they could gain access to her."

Paramedics placed her on a spine board and took her to Broomfield Hospital for treatment.

The male driver of the Triumph was not seriously hurt in the accident.
