Walton: Residents hit back at break-up claims

From the archive, first published Thursday 12th Apr 2007.

A GROUP of residents are refuting claims they caused a community group to fold.

Walton Residents' Association disbanded last week just days after celebrating its 60th anniversary.

The trouble came to a head at the association's annual meeting when the group pointed out there were not enough people present to elect this year's committee.

Anna Molen, of Cliff Parade, said she was upset with the committee because it did not listen to what members wanted.

Morley Thomas, of Old Hall Lane, said he believed a number of committee members were already planning to resign before the final meeting.

Mrs Firminger, who had been a member of the association for 19 years, said: "I'm not blaming them for breaking up the association, but I'm 75 years old now and not happy to be chairman anymore because you just can't do right by these people."
