Chance for aspiring poets to win £1,000

From the archive, first published Friday 13th Apr 2007.

POETS still have plenty of time to pen prose to prove their prowess on paper and win themselves a prize.

The National Poetry Anthology is search for our area's top poet, which will go on to represent Basildon in the UK's biggest annual poetry competition.

Each major UK town will put forward one poet to represent it in the competition, which features £1,000 prize money for the winner.

It's free to enter and the winner will have their poem published in a book.

Competition editor Peter Quinn said the competition was designed to encourage new writers and they hoped it would be more popular than ever this year with people wanting to give poetry a try. To enter, just send three unpublished poems on any subject (up to 20 lines and 160 words) to United Press Ltd, Admail 3735, London EC1B 1JB by the closing date of June 30.
