Man hit with iron bar

A MAN was left with gashes to his head after he was hit with an iron bar during a vicious attack.

The 42-year-old man was walking along Scott Road, Grays, when he was jumped from behind by his attacker.

He was hit over the head with an iron bar before his attacker ran off leaving the man with gashes to the back and side of his head.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the violent assault.

Sgt Kevin McPoland said: "This was an extremely nasty and vicious attack and the victim was lucky not to be left with more serious injuries.

"We would urge anyone who saw the attack, or anything suspicious in the moments leading up to it, to contact us immediately."
