Pet goats killed by dogs

THREE pet goats were killed by a pack of "wild dogs" which are still on the loose.

Residents in Crays Hill have been warned to keep an eye on animals which are kept outside after the savage attack.

The latest newsletter from Crays Hill Residents' Association states: "We are sad to have to report that a recent incident in Oak Road resulted in some pet livestock being savaged by a pack of dogs.

"This has been reported to police and the parish council. In the meantime we ask residents to keep a watch and report any incidents to police."

An Essex Police spokeswoman said: "A pack of four dogs was found terrorising chickens and three goats. But after going onto the site the informant did not wish to pursue the matter further, possibly for fear of reprisals. However, they wanted it brought to our attention."

The owners, thought to be a couple from Oak Road, believe the dogs were from the Dale Farm traveller camp at Oak Lane.

According to police, the husband went on to the camp and saw one of the animals, but was told by travellers it was a stray and did not belong to anyone there.

Dale Farm spokesman Richard Sheridan said claims about the attack on March 21 were unfounded.

He said: "It is nothing to do with us. we get blamed for everything. Nobody lets their dogs leave the site."

The RSPCA and Basildon Council dog warden have also been informed.
