Corringham musician Joshua Woo's star continues to rise as he has now won through to the grand final of "South Coast Idol".

From 10,000 applicants, guitarist Joshua, 14, is now one of the 15 finalists.

Gable Hall pupil Joshua wowed the 1,000 strong audience at the regional final with his self-penned composition called Undercover.

On this occasion, he was accompanied by school friend Sam Browne on guitar.

Panel member Lee Latchford-Evans, of Steps fame, described Joshua as "the complete package".

Joshua took more than 70 supporters along to the Fairfield Halls in Croydon.

His father, Sai, said: "The competition is looking for new talent who write their own music. The panel seem to agree with us that Joshua really has something special."

The contestants aren't just marked on their performance on the night. They are also marked on their number of supporters, text voting and publicity.

Joshua has appeared on local radio, in the press and some of his songs can be heard by clicking here.

He said: "I am really pleased to be doing so well. The support has been great. I'm looking forward to the final."

The grand final will take place at Portsmouth Guild Hall on May 26. More than 2,000 people are expected to attend.

Joshua is planning a series of gigs before then in the Thurrock area.
