Man beaten outside club

From the archive, first published Sunday 15th Apr 2007.

A MAN was beaten by three thugs in an apparently motiveless attack.

The 25-year-old from Basildon, who suffers with diabetes. was hit from behind as he left the Colours nightclub in Southernhay, Basildon.

He fell to the ground and was kicked and punched on the floor.

Essex Police spokeswoman Kim Perks said there had been no row before the attack.

She added: "The man who was with a group of friends has no idea why he was attacked.

"It is a gay nightclub, but there is nothing to suggest this was a homophobic attack.

"The man has diabetes which is complicating the injuries which are to most of his upper body and face and he is being monitored in hospital.

"We could be looking at grevious bodily harm."

The three men left in a taxi which was heading to Southend.

They were all in their 20s and medium build. Two were black with short hair. One of them was 6ft and wore a yellow shirt, the other was 5ft 6ins and wore a cream shirt and trousers. The third man was white with fuzzy hair and wore a white short sleeve shirt.

Anyone with information on the attack at 2am on Saturday is asked to call Basildon Police on 01268 532212.
