Squelch for cancer charity

From the archive, first published Tuesday 24th Apr 2007.

TEENAGERS squelched their way across their school field during a sponsored mud race.

The pupils, from Castle View School, Canvey, splashed across the finishing line to raise funds for the Lady McAdden breast screening unit, in Southend.

Kerianne Chipperfield, 13, said they had come up with the idea after a very muddy PE lesson.

"We were playing run outs, where you have to run and not get caught, and we all got covered in mud," she said.

"We decided it would be a good idea to do it for charity."

The pupils chose the Lady McAdden unit as their charity after they were given a tour of the site."

The teenagers hope their hard efforts will raise at least £1,000 for the charity. Anyone who wants to contribute to their effort can call the school on 01268 696811.
