PRE-SCHOOL organisers are pleading with the public to help them carry on.
The Noak Bridge pre-school is currently run from a portable classroom, in the grounds of Noak Bridge Primary School, in Coppice Lane, and needs to raise £2,500.
The money would help replace a ramp, and eventually repair stairs, which lead up to the door of the school.
After a year of deterioration the ramp has been closed because it has become dangerous.
If the ramp collapses the rear fire door will be the only way to get in and out, and that would breach fire regulations and mean the centre would have to close.
A new ramp would cost £3,000, but the pre-school, which is run as a charity, has so far raised £500.
Chairman Adrian Buckley said: "We've repaired some of the slats in the past but now the whole structure is dangerous.
"My foot went completely through it. I was just glad it wasn't one of the children. That could have been a very nasty accident.
"A ramp would make it easier for the children to get inside as well.
"The steps are quite steep and these are only very young children."
The school looks after 40 children, aged two to four, every weekday morning and for three afternoons a week.
