Miss Basildon title race hots up

From the archive, first published Tuesday 3rd Apr 2007.

THE loveliest ladies in town will send pulses racing when they compete for the title of Miss Basildon 2007.

Nearly 60 girls have already applied to take part in the beauty pageant, at Jumpin Jacks nightclub, Festival Leisure Park. Contestants, who must be 17 to 24, will take to the stage in day wear, outrageous club wear - which will replace the old swim wear section - and evening dresses.

Organiser Lucie Hide, 23, says girls will be judged on confidence and charisma, as much as their looks. She said: "We've had a record number of applicants - 56 compared to 30 last year. The winner could go on to compete in Miss England, then Miss World, so it's a big chance."

The top three rated girls in the Miss Basildon competition will be given modelling contracts. Louse White, 23, who came second in last year's Miss Basildon, went on to become runner-up in the Miss Great Britain competition.

To apply to take part in this year's Miss Basildon, on Friday, April 20, call 01273 764742.
